3D Environment & Prop Artist

We are seeking an experienced and versatile 3D environment and prop artist to join our team. Our main focus is on environment design, creation and optimization for both Unity and Unreal. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for taking initial direction, either through rough style boards or detailed concept art, and transforming them into fully-realized scenes. This includes designing in 3D, creating blockouts, models, textures, LODs, collisions, scene population, lighting, shaders, basic VFX, and more, with a keen eye for detail and an ability to ensure optimized performance.

Requirements:

We are looking for candidates with a strong understanding of the following tools and workflows:

Poly modeling tool of your choice (3D Max, Maya, Modo, Blender, 3D coat, etc.)

Zbrush

Substance Painter

Substance Designer

Substance 3D Sampler

Adobe Photoshop

Unreal Engine

Unity Engine

A strong workstation with enough RAM & video memory for heavy assets

Pen Tablet for hand-painted textures.

In addition, we require a strong understanding of:

High-Poly to Low-Poly workflow and correct baking of maps

Medium poly workflow including decal methods

Low poly (faceted and/or edge smoothing) workflow

Material and texture workflows, including shaders.

Both poly modeling and sculpting

Hand-painted texturing & photo texturing in Photoshop

Automatic material texturing using Substance Painter

Strong environment creation pipeline understanding (look-dev, concept, blockout, scene population, shaders, VFX, lighting, POST)

Correct and professional work methods and hands-offs (naming conventions, clean assets, correct pivots, hierarchies, needs of programmers, riggers, animators, etc.)

Strong understanding of art fundamentals and creativity. You are able to tackle challenging creative tasks on your own.

Strong understanding of game engines.

Correct game engine asset creation (prefabs, static assets, skeletal assets, blueprints, etc.)

Tri-count, animation limits, material/shader limits, batching, draw calls, etc.

Scene lighting, VFX, POST & Optimization

Decals & edge decals and how to apply them

Collisions and their understanding

Ability to correctly implement your work in-engine (Unity & Unreal), and from there QA check and improve your work or that of others.

Finally, we require a candidate with a strong ability to match various art styles. We work with many different clients in the games, advertising, and VR industries, so our artists must be able to adapt to different styles, including hyper & cinematic realism, stylized & abstract styles, and hand-painted style.
